MEET THE ARTIST
Nicholas Mancillas received his Master of Fine Arts in visual arts from the Art Institute of Boston University at Lesley University in the summer of 2009.
Once a carpenter, High School Art teacher Nick Mancillas revels in the act of taking common Home Depot type materials intended for mundane, everyday purposes and transforming them through his own artistic alchemy. Ranging from politics, portraiture, and the human figure his work emphasizes the process of creation leaving rich multi-layered surfaces. Since graduating from the art institute in Boston he has completed series including his popular Black Lives Matter & Cardboard Currency Series.
Nick's path through higher education led to teaching high school Spanish, English and Art, which he has now been doing for 30 years. Nick has been married since 1989 and has two daughters.
